The Royal family loves pets as much as we do. Here is some history to keep your curiosity at bay.

Since the 17th century the Royals have been seen posing proudly with their beloved animals. Just some of the pets the Royals have owned are Pugs, King Charles Spaniels, Greyhounds and of course the most commonly associated – the Corgi.

King Edward VII’s pet was a terrier named Caesar. He outlived the King and at His Majesty’s funeral Caesar walked behind the coffin. As mentioned in a previous post, the current Queen is associated with the Corgi. At present the Queen owns three Corgis: Monty, Willow and Holly plus three Dorgis: Cider, Candy and Vulcan.

Corgis are mated with dachsunds (most notably Pipkin, who belonged to Princess Margaret) to create ‘Dorgis’. The Duchess of Cornwall owns two Jack Russell terriers, Tosca and Rosie. I hope this look into the Royal family has been as enjoyable for you as it has been for us.

Most people know not to give their dog chocolate, but not many people are aware of how much chocolate is dangerous, and exactly what to look for if their dog is poisoned. Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which contribute to poisoning. There is also theobromine in some garden mulches made from cocoa-bean hulls; some dogs have become unwell after eating them.

Cat ScratchingCats are among the most endearing creatures on the planet, we love them to bits. Their unique personalities allow them to walk into our lives unannounced and simply take up residence within minutes. Ask anyone who has ever been adopted by a roaming cat, that one day decided to walk onto your property.

One thing we, as owners, seem to forget time and time again is they are only half domesticated. Put aside all that cute cuddly fur for one moment, forget about them rolling around in front on the fire. When kitty decides to strike, it hurts and sometimes it can be fairly messy. Cats have got two sets of claws, ones for playing around the house with and ones for ruthlessly taking down pigeons and chasing away others daring to wander onto their territory.
