Many people think that cats are cold and are not oblivious to their owners. In fact, cats are as loving as dogs. The difference is that animals are much more independent and free, many of the misunderstandings that occur between owners and their cats with communication problems that could be avoided if they know a little better cats body language.

cat body languageCats mainly communicate through body language. Do you know what your cat is trying to tell you with her tail, ears, or body position? You can learn a lot about your cat’s state of mind if you know what to look for. Cats show anger with arched backs , flattened ears, dilated pupils and fluffed-up tails. A swishing tail can be a sign of impending attack. A cat who is trying to stare you down is issuing a challenge. Cats don’t like for you to stare at them.

A relaxed cat has eyes that are half open. Cats express affection by blinking their eyes slowly. Kneading motions with the paws shows happiness. When the cat rubs her head against you, she is either greeting you or showing affection. Read the rest of this entry »

Reading your cat’s body language

Cat Body LanguageCat behavior is often misunderstood due to our inability to read their body language. Cats, just like us humans, use body language to communicate and broadcast information about their feelings and moods, desires, likes and dislikes. Understanding the meaning of various body signals will help to gain more insight into cat’s behavior, build a better relationship and even predict its behavior in the future.

Here are a few examples of cat body signals:

1. Face language

  • ears up and pointed forward: “I’m alert and ready for action”
  • ears forward and slightly outward: “I’m at ease but observing”
