The Bearded Collie, also known as Beardy is originally a herding dog imported from Scotland. It is thought to have its early origins in Poland, and it has also been know as the Highland Collie. It was traded into Scotland in 1514 in exchange for sheep and various other valuable items. It now acts as a regular family companion, and frequently appears on dog shows as well. It has a very fluffy and soft fur-coat, partially covering its eyes, and it is medium-sized, with a height of about 20 to 22 inches and a weight of about 40 to 60 pounds. The Foxhound was the first dog to be specifically bred in Great Britain. Their origins can be traced as far back as the 13th century. Although, there had been hounds of more ancient origin, such as the Southern Hound and the Bloodhound, something different was wanted towards the end of the seventeenth century to hunt the wild deer that had become somewhat scattered after Cromwell’s civil war. There was a need for a quicker hound. In 1650, when the English Foxhound reach America, they began breeding them to be lighter, faster and taller.
The Foxhound has a broad head which is not peaked like the Bloodhound. It is long from the apex to the frontal bones, the eyebrows are very prominent, and their ears are set low. Their natural condition is thin and shapely, but not large. Read the rest of this entry »

The Belgian Sheepdog is one of four sheepdogs originating in Belgium. It is also known as the Belgian Groenendael (Grow-en-en-doll ) or Chien de Berger Belge. In some countries they are all considered one breed. The AKC recognizes three of the four breeds including the Belgian Groenendael. These four breeds are so closely related that, when they have a litter of puppies, some of the puppies will closely resemble one of the other three breeds more than its parents.
This medium to medium/large breed weighs between 55-75 pounds and is between 21″ to 27″ in height. They are a working dog and want a job to do. A bored Belgian Groenendael will find some way to fill its time and will make their own dog toys. That being said, it is best to ensure that they have plenty to fill their time.
